I’ve remembered a childhood nightmare for all these years (I may have been five or six at the time); a Troll was trying to grab my leg from under a small footbridge, behind some buildings of our small town. I would sometimes think about that dream whenever I walked over a bridge. When our daughter was about the same age, we found the children’s book “Billygoat Gruff” and I remembered having had that book in those earlier years, probably had that dream about it. I have different thoughts about walking over bridges now. I have different dreams.
I don’t remember where the bridge is, I think somewhere in the eastern states, but that’s all right because it allows me to share in its mystique also.
